Personal peer relationships and preparation for the formal university / college preparation program found at the high school level are central to Middle School. It is the most intense developmental time in a child’s life when physical, emotional, and social changes are experienced.
This transition period is called pre–adolescence. Middle School is designed to build upon the foundation that students have acquired in Lower School and prepare them to take advantage of educational opportunities in the future. The program strives to achieve a balance between the rigorous demands of a college-preparatory school and the needs of a growing adolescent. Maintaining focus on the development of the whole child, the curriculum addresses intellectual, social, emotional, aesthetic, creative, physical and ethical development. Teachers combine their knowledge with students’ special interests to promote an academically stimulating environment. Opportunities are available for individual and collaborative experiences.
